CD#101 OVERCOMING VICES!

OVERCOMING VICES!

Define vice.

Let me describe firstly a vice from my experience being a self-employed truck driver. I have a vice in my shop that I use for many various chores. A vice is a device that winds tighter for the purpose of firmly holding an object by squeezing. Some might say that’s not the subject but I would have to disagree! A worldly vice is an immoral practice or habit that holds us down in the miry clay, the sins of this world and it squeezes the life out of us! As we move through this study we’ll see that habits are the start of or the fuel for vices!

We all have habits, both good and bad. Speaking of habits, define a habit. A habit is anything you do automatically without consciously thinking about it, or without specifically deciding to do it, is a habit. Good habits or practices–such as tidiness, courtesy, good manners, being positive, etc. are a real blessing. But when the habits you’ve picked up are BAD or DESTRUCTIVE, and you find them hard or almost impossible to change, they are known as VICES.

There’s a true story about a man who owned an eagle, and for many years had chained him to a stake. Over the years, the eagles had walked around and around that stake so much on the end of his chain that he’d worn an actual rut in the ground. Finally, he was getting old and his master felt sorry for him and thought, “These are his last days, so I’m going to set him free!” So he took the metal ring off the eagle’s foot, took him up in his hand and tossed him into the air. But what do you suppose happened? The old eagle had almost totally forgotten how to fly! He flip-flopped right back down to the ground, walked back over to the old rut and started walking around the rut like he had done for years! No chain or bird-band held him! –Just the habit! He had been chained in the habit for so long he wouldn’t even try to fly! I have heard of the same being done with a baby elephant to the point that a very small rope will hold the elephant when it is grown. AS a baby the elephant could not break the chain so, as a massive strong adult elephant would not even try to break the rope!

CD#100 Servitude

Servitude

CD#100

Servitude is a condition of a slave, to serve another.

  • 1 Corinthians 6:20 says, “For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”
  • 1 Corinthians 7:22 says, “For he that is called in the Lord, being a servant, is the Lord’s freeman: likewise also he that is called, being free, is Christ’s servant.”
  • 1 Corinthians 7:23 says, “Ye are bought with a price; be not ye the servants of men.”

Servant #1401 doulos, (doo’-los) a slave lit. Or fig., involuntary or voluntary frequently therefore in a qualified sense of subjection or subservience.

It’s no longer our life, our life was death and destruction but with the price of Jesus Christ we were bought! Our life is hid in Him and by Him we have life so we should follow His example of servitude!

  • John 12:23 says, “And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.”
  • John 12:24 says, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.”

Here we have Jesus Christ’s example set forth as our blueprint for building on the foundation of the Rock! Jesus Christ gave His life freely on the Cross and He bared much fruit! By His death we now have our life, life to serve Him so others can come to Him! Jesus Christ bought us to set us free to serve Him. Jesus Christ came that we might have not just life but abundant life!

  • John 12:25 says, “He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.”
  • John 12:26 says, “If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.”

CD#93 Faith & Obedience

Faith & Obedience

CD#93

Have you ever noticed how hard it is for some people to be “obedient”? We all have different strengths and different weakness. “Obey” is something the flesh want to avoid unless it’s what it wants to do or accomplish! Some might say that problem is only with children and not adults. I would argue with that point simply from hearing the vows, wedding vows of today. In most weddings today you either have new vows or the word “obey” is left off from love & honor.

In today’s study let’s look at what God Almighty has to say about obedience. Firstly let me quickly add that obedience must come from the inside, from the heart. Later on we’ll see where some had a “form” of obedience from the outside. In that case Jesus gave them strong warning of taking care of the inside.

Obedience is a battle that is won or lost in our minds and our hearts. Satan wants to cause to doubt God and lead us to disobedience. Let’s document that from our instruction manual:

  • 2 Corinthians 10:3 says, “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:”
  • 2 Corinthians 10:4 says, “(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)”

You and I can not ever be “obedient” on our on strength. So many times in my past I have lost a battle and in my mind I said, “I won’t” do that again. Time past and before I knew it the enemy attacked and I failed again. Our Father knows we’re weak and He has made a way for us to walk and live in victory! Our weapons through God our Father are “mighty”. Mighty was translated from the Greek word “dunatos”  (doo-nat-os’) meaning powerful or capable, it’s from the prim meaning to be able or possible. All things are possible by God “if” we only believe and exercise our faith! “Pulling down” was translated from the Greek word “kathairesis” (kath-ah’ee-res-is) meaning demolition; fig. Extinction! Whatever strong holds Satan has in your life with you exercising your faith it can become extinct! Next verse shows us more:

    Last Stop before Home!

(Transcript of Tp#92)

Can you imagine, picture this it’s holiday time and you’re on your way “home” to see all of your family and friends. Your tired and you have traveled so very far but the bus has to make a pit stop, the plane has to stop to pick of other passengers.

All along this trip you have been faithfully, anxiously waiting to make it back home. While you are waiting during this stop something or someone gets your attention. Before you know it or even realize it your so enamored that you can’t “hear” the call back to your transportation home! Getting home had been #1 on your mind but in a wandering moment you have been robbed at the “last stop” of the day. All of this could be the backdrop for a Hollywood movie but sadly it’s not.

You and I as Christians are traveling “back home” and Satan wants to get our attention and distract us at the last stop! Sound ridiculous it shouldn’t because it has happened before and history repeats itself in one way or another! This is why God Almighty has given us the Old Testament for our instruction. He wants us to learn from our forefather’s mistakes so we will not make the same mistakes!

Let’s document the before turning to the Old Testament. Open your Bible to 1 Corinthians please:

  • 1 Corinthians 10:1 says, “Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;”

CD#91 Inheritance

           “Inheritance”

CD#91

QDefine the word or term inheritance?

A. Inheritance is the act of inheriting.

Q. With that being said then define to inherit?

A, To inherit is to transfer property to an heir.

We’re going to look at that very subject today “Inheritance”. Regardless of who you are, where you reside, how much or how little income you earn you will have an eternal inheritance. Your eternal inheritance will be according to your birthright! One key thing to note and to remember is somebody had to die for you to gain your inheritance.

It is built into the human minds to be independent and to want to make it on our own, in our way. In finding the way to accomplish our own way we sometimes lose sight of the big picture. Over a period of time we fall into a tunnel vision syndrome.

There are so many different things we want and things we desire to accomplish. This little study will hopefully remind us to see the big picture and inherit all good things! We know from Revelation 21:

  • Revelation 21:1-2 says “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.”

Q. Why a new heaven and a new earth?

A. Because the old heaven and earth have been touched or tainted by sin. Let’s understand this word new from the original text. New was translated from the Greek word ” kainos” meaning new especially in freshness. The things created by God Almighty are good only His creation can taint them. This new is fresh by rejuvenation. Only the righteous will dwell permanently in this new heaven and new earth (see 2 Peter 3:13). Hold this thought in your mind as we work our way to Psalms 37:11 and the word inherit.

This new city is Jerusalem. Fully translated instead of only transliterated Jerusalem means, “founded peaceful” or founded on peace! Jesus Christ the Lord of Lords, the Prince of Peace (see Isaiah 9:6) is the foundation meaning what this new city, new earth; new heaven is founded upon! This is why we must be taught His Word and become founded upon His sayings (Matthew 7:24-27 so we can do verse 21) so we can partake of this inheritance. Turn to the great book of Psalms please:

  • Psalms 37:11 says, “But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.”

IS REBELLION SIN? IS STUBBORNNESS SIN

IS REBELLION SIN?
IS STUBBORNNESS SIN

(REBELLION IS WITCHCRAFT)
(STUBBORNNESS IS IDOLATRY)
Do you think much about REBELLION and its consequences today? Have you ever stopped and been very honest with yourself and thought about how stubborn we often are – and how much it hurts us? STUBBORNNESS: makes us do things we shouldn’t do, and cuts us off from others (even those who want to help us) – simply because we insist on our own way and won’t admit we might be wrong. But STUBBORNNESS: also cuts us off from God, because it makes us refuse to seek His will or listen to His Word. Instead, we insist on going our own way – regardless of the consequences. Read in the scripture of the people of Jeremiah’s day, who stubbornly refused to listen to God’s warnings and told him: – we will continue with our own plans; each of us will follow the STUBBORNNESS of heart” (Jeremiah 18:12). STUBBORNNESS has its roots in pride – and because of this, it’s a spiritual problem.
Q. Why did God remove King Saul from the throne? (see 1 Samuel 15)
In scripture we learn that King David deliberately plotted murder against one of his loyal subjects in order to cover-up his sin of adultery, yet God forgave him. But God did not forgive King Saul! Why was King Saul not forgiven by the Lord God?

A. King Saul wasn’t rejected because of his sin; it was because of his REBELLION and STUBBORNNESS:
*1 Samuel 15:22-23 says And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

Mark it down on the table of your heart, the fore front of your mind: GOD CALLS REBELLION WITCHCRAFT – STUBBORNNESS IDOLATRY. That is, STUBBORNNESS is idol witchcraft worship, and idol worship is a complete breakage of the 1st commandment. That’s why God hates STUBBORNNESS, yes God hates it. As Christians we don’t want to be a part of ANYTHING God hates!

On the surface, at face value King Saul didn’t look rebellious and stubborn. He didn’t seem to have done anything really bad. It didn’t really come out until Samuel – the spiritual authority addressed it and confronted it to see what would come out. God’s Word is clear that REBELLION is a great way to find yourself in dry land spiritually:

*Psalms 68:6, “...the REBELLIOUS dwell in a dry land.”

CD#86 Let His Acts Move you!

CD#86 Let His Acts Move you!

Just because we see someone’s acts, their exploits does not mean we know them personally. We know of their actions, their exploits but that’s not all of them. Their exploits are only a part of which they are individually.

God Almighty wants us to come to Him and become His friend. We can only be God’s friends by being placed by Him in the Rock, which is the Way. Point being made is we must move past God’s “acts” and know His “Way”!

  • Exodus 33:11 says And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle.
  1. What does the name Moses mean if you fully translate it instead of only transliterating it?
  2. Moses means a drawing out of the water, drawn from the water.

Moses was drawn from the water literally and God spoke to him as you and I would to a friend. This was God’s plan from the Garden with Adam and Eve. You and I were created for a close intimate relationship with our Father God Almighty! Think about that: God spoke to Moses as a friend.

  1. What is the qualification for being God’s friend?
  2. WE have a study tape #75 “To be God’s Friend” that goes into great depth write us for a copy. Let’s turn to John 15 for the answer to our question:
  • John 15:14 says Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

“If” you and I have accepted God’s grace as in Ephesians 2:8 then we have been drawn out, drawn out of the waters, meaning peoples if you’ll study Revelation 17:15 in your home study time.

COMING to Truth CAUSES the Coming Out”

STARTERQUESTION: Let the title sink down through your ears to you SEED-BED! As we read our text: KEEP in mind there are only 2 people listed here – 2 types that is – 1 serving the Lord – and the other serving the devil! Remember the devil is as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour – note “MAY DEVOUR” – he can’t devour everybody!

 *TEXT: 2 Timothy 2:24-26Type 1 V.24SERVANT OF THE LORD” & Type 2 V.25THOSE THAT OPPOSE THEMSELVES

Food 4 Thought: TROPHIES are a hunter’s hardest catch – You do not see heads of squirrels mounted on walls of the hunter’s trophy room You see bucks with large sets of antlers, indicating their age and wisdom and avoidance of many hunters before. TROPHIES are game that have been hard to hunt and capture. The Christian is a TROPHY to the devil if he can catch one we aren’t helpless animals we are more than conquerors!
